The basic exhibition “The Bronze Brilliance” has on display more than 2,200 cultural relics which span the whole bronze age from the time of the Taosi site to the Qin and Han Dynasties,   fully exhibiting the brilliance of Chinese bronze civilization. The exhibits mainly come from the cultural relics excavated by archaeologists over the years and the cultural relics recovered in recent years in the special action against cultural relics crimes. The contents of the exhibition are divided into three parts, namely “The Source of Chinese Civilization”, “The System Evolution of Rites and Music”, “The Model of Skill and Art”. The first part mainly tells about Shanxi's special position in the formation and development of Chinese civilization through the exquisite bronzes unearthed from the Taosi site, the Jiuwutou cemetery in Wenxi, the Qucun-Tianma site of the Jin State, the cemetery of the Peng State and the cemetery of the Ba State. “The System Evolution of Rites and Music”, with bronze ware unearthed from the cemetery of Jin Marquis and the Minister Zhao’s tomb as well as bronze treasures such as the zun vessel with inscription and the square yi vessel with inscription as realia, fully introduces the instrumental system, demonstrates the development and evolution of the ritual and music system in the Western and Eastern Zhou period, and interprets the spiritual connotation of Chinese bronzes. “The Model of Skill and Art” shows the exquisite casting technology and modelling and decorative art of bronze ware. By representing the continuous innovation of the casting technology of the Jin State through the cultural relics found in the bronze casting site in Houma, it exhibits the outstanding achievements of the Shanxi-style bronze art.
